Speech Competition

Nurse is the heart of the hospital. For 24 hours, they take care of patients. Good communication is very important for nurses. Without good communication skills, nurses cannot perform the duties of a nurse properly. Nurses must be able to communicate effectively intraprofessionally, interprofessionally, as well as with patients and their families. Nowadays, besides having to be able to provide nursing services well, a nurse is also required to have good leadership and communication skills. Especially communication in English as an international language. The International Nursing Student Symposium and Festival (InSympofest) hold a speech competition for nursing students around the world who want to improve their skills in speaking and performing in public.

With the theme “Nurturing Innovation and Technology for Sustainable

Nursing Practice “, we challenge you, nursing students, to convey your critical thoughts and propose innovative solutions about global problems out there.

General Rules

The contest is based on 2 round (preliminary round and final round). There will be awards for the best 3 speakers.

Participants are highly suggested to come at least 45 minutes before the time of the competition and must re-register at the place that has been provided before the competition

The participants who don’t attend the technical meeting won’t be guaranteed to get further information from the committees outside of those sessions.

All participants must arrive at the waiting room at least 15 minutes before the competition starts.

All participants will be called 3 times when their turn comes before being considered as walk-out.

Participants should remain outside the performing room that is designated by the committees until they are called to perform their speech.

Participants are not allowed to watch other participants’ performance.

In case of a rules violation, judges may (in their discretion) deduct 3 points from the total score in one round for violation of rules (except timing). Judges may also disqualify speakers for gross misconduct or ineligibility.

Properties categorized as sharp tools or dangerous weapons, liquids or powders that can litter performing room are prohibited.

All judges’/adjudicators’ decisions and results inside Result Slips and Ballots are considered as final.

Times of The Performance

Timing will begin with the first word uttered by the participant which will include any other communication such as sound effects, a staged act, etc.

The maximum time varies in each round. If a participant exceeds the performing time given, 3 points will be deducted from maximum 30 seconds of the exceeding time.

Timekeeper shall provide warning signals to the participants by showing the remaining time with a piece of paper.

No signal shall be given for overtime period.

Selection Process

  1. Preliminary Round: Prepared Speech

Let’s start this first round with the basic! You need to perform your own prepared speech with your own style. Participants are free to choose the topic as it takes around nursing issues.

Specific Rules:

The topic will be given a week before the competition and will be post on the website

The content for the prepared speech shall be prepared by the participants

The speech may include references of other sources, as long as it contains an original or unique approach.

Participants are not allowed to bring note paper.

The performing time shall be 6 minutes length.

There will be a sign showed to the performing participant at the fourth minute, fifth minute, and last 30 seconds before the performing ends.

  1. Final Round: Extemporaneous Speech

Each participant will be given questions related to a topic and based on those questions, you should create an outstanding speech. The questions will be given before the round starts and you have 20 minutes to prepare it. In this Final round you should impress and convince the audience by delivering a memorable and inspirational speech which can move the audience emotionally.

The material/sources of the related topic will be provided.

Participants are not allowed to bring note.

The performing time shall be 7 minutes length.

There will be a sign showed to the performing participant at the fourth minute, fifth minute, and last 30 seconds  before the performing ends

Photo Contest

INSympoFest 2019, yes, we’re back with our annual Photography Competition. So take out your cameras –or phones, snap some photos and get creative! Your photograph could become part of INSympoFest history on upcoming proceeding covers, as well as appear on our website, Facebook, Instagram, and line pages. Nursing has multifaceted portrayal, and we want you to bring them through your photographs. See below for submission details.

Submission Guidelines :

  • This competition open for all level nursing student
  • Photos are submitted only online via this form.
  • The photographer(s) must be the author(s) of the pictures submitted in his/her/their name.
  • Photos must be not submitted in the other competition before.
  • The photo will become Insympofest’s copyright and will be used for communication media of our event.
  • Each entry must be submitted as PNG, JPG, or JPEG files, with the highest resolution possible, at a minimum of 300 DPI.
  • Photos must not show the name of a photographer, agency, or publication, or any other information.
  • All submissions must be received by September, 2019 (Submission delay will be not accepted).
  • All photos must have accurate captions, written in English only (maximum 100 words)
  • The content of a picture cannot be altered by adding, rearranging, reversing, distorting or removing people and/or objects from within the frame. There are two exceptions:
  • Cropping that removes extraneous details is permitted;
  • Sensor dust or scratches on scans of negatives can be removed.
  • Adjustments of color or conversion to grayscale that do not alter content are permitted,
  • A maximum of two photos per participant can be submitted.
  • If any photographer is proven to have violated the established rules, the photographer will be canceled the award if it has been determined to be the winner of the photo competition.

Poster Competition

INSympoFest 2019 held a poster competition to be a part of the festival competition. We invite you to join the biggest nursing competition with various competitions and prizes. In this year, poster competition has the theme “Nurturing Innovation and Technology for Sustainable Nursing Practice”. Based on this theme, we want to challenge you to make posters that able to encourage people to be aware of the technology that develops in nursing practice. The poster can contain benefits, impacts, or technological innovations that are developing in the community to improve nursing care. We are pleased to say that you can use case studies, literature reviews, prototypes, or the implementation of data-based nursing into this poster competition. Submission Guidelines

  • Posters are submitted only online via our website.

  • Posters can be a result or outcome of scientific/creativity project, case study, and study literature. Especially, for those category, posters should consist of a background, method, aim, discussion, nursing evidence-based, and finding.

Participant Guidelines

  • This singing competition is open for undergraduate and graduate nursing student.
  • The competition could be performed solo or in a team (minimum 2 persons and maximum 5 persons or nursing student in each group should be ½ n+1)
  • One institution may send more than one performer to participate in the competition.
  • This competition consists of two rounds; elimination round* which will be scored by judges via online submission and final round*
  • Performances will be judged primarily on, but not limited to, the following:
    • Vocal Quality (30%)
    • Vocal Technique (30%) : Articulation, Breath Control, Pharasering, Resonance, Intonation, Dynamics
    • Interpretation (20%): Clear Understanding Of The Lyric, improvisation & arrangement, Facial Expressions And Gestures Make Sense
    • Stage Presence (20%) : Energized, Confident, Communicative, Performer/Choreography, Dressed Appropriately
  • Participant need to fill the online registration form in the website and pay the registration fee in Rupiah as much as Rp 100.000,00 for solo and team Rp150.000,00.

Elimination round*

  • For elimination rounds, each participant is required to sing a song that has been chosen by the committee and the judges.
  • The list of songs that can be selected participants:

    • Fix You – Coldplay
  • Each participant will make a cover video with a maximum duration 7 minutes and a maximum size 100 Mb which will be submitted after registering and paying.
  • The submitted video will be uploaded to youtube account INSympoFest 2019 and will be scored by judges. The participants with the best score qualify for final round
  • The song is allowed to be arranged by participants in any genre.
  • There will be favorite winners from the elimination round who will be selected through the number of likes on the INSympoFest youtube account, vote will be closed on September 20th 2019)
  • Favorite winners (solo and group) will be invited to perform on INSympoFest 2019 Grand Closing Day 1 (on September 23th 2019)

Final Performance*

  • The participants with the best value from elimination round must perform in this final round.
  • Participants who qualify for the final will be scored directly by the judges when perform
  • In the final round, participants must choose a song that has been selected by the committee and the judge.

  • The minimum time allowance is 3 minutes, while the maximum is 10 minutes.

Format : Solo/Team_Institution_Track Selection

  • Every participant must be responsible for their own costumes, instruments or properties. The performance with prerecorded music or sound (minus one) must submit the soft copy of the record using USB stick to the committee email : divisilombainsympofest@gmail.com on September 20-21. The committee will only provide a sound system without any additional musical instruments.
  • Participants are allowed to bring personal music instruments to support the performance of the participants.
  • Participants who will bring personal musical instruments are required to provide reports to the committee three days before the competitions (on September 20th 2019). Damage to musical instruments provided by both (the committee and the self-induced) caused by the participants is the responsibility of the participants.
  • Final rehearsal at the stage will be allowed a day prior to the competition, at the time that will be announced later. Every participant may rehearse for 15 minutes according to the assigned number. No rehearsal is allowed at the stage other than the scheduled time.
  • The final rehearsal will be held along with a technical meeting. Participants will be called according to the serial number of the appearance with a maximum duration of 15 minutes. Participants who are not present at the rehearsal are not permitted to use a personal music instrument while performing. The time and location will be announced later.
  • On the day, every participant must present at the venue maximum 45 minutes before the performance and must be ready at the backstage 10 minutes before their schedule (Participant can check InsympoFest 2019’s Schedule on InsympoFest’s Website). Late participants will not be included in the competition but will still be allowed to perform at the end of the performance.
  • The committee is entitled to upload or record the work of the participants to social media accounts owned by Insympofest 2019  as a appreciation to the participants.

Video Competition

This competition is intended for the world’s entire nursing student who have fresh ideas and great talent to represent their outlook and critical thought about the great innovation of nurture and technology for sustainable nursing practice in future. The participant can be individually or a team, which is the members no more than 5 person. The best 3 participant of video competition will be awarded. The theme of 4th INSympofest video competition is “Nurturing Innovation and Technology for Sustainable Nursing Practice” with the duration of around 3 to 5 minutes. The video must contain original material. Submissions can contain copyright materials no longer than 1 minute from the entire length video by attaching the necessary rights and permissions. The participants who do not attach this written document(s) will be disqualified.

Criteria for Participants
The participant can be an individual or a team which maximum members are 5 people
The participant must be a nursing student or at least there are 3 nursing students on a team

Video Requirements
The theme of INSympofest Video Competition is “Nurturing Innovation and Technology for Sustainable Nursing Practice”
Video’s duration is around 3 until 5 minutes
Only video in English or with English subtitle that is accepted
Video must contain original material. Submissions can contain copyright materials no longer than 1 minute from the entire length video by attaching the necessary rights and permissions. Participants who do not attach this written document(s) will be disqualified.

Cultural Performance

We invite worldwide nursing student delegates to showcase the richness and express respect for their own cultures. Traditional dancing, singing, theatrical performance, musical instruments or any other performance are welcome. All contestant will be evaluated by competent judges and all judges will decide three best performances to get award prizes.

Participant

  • This cultural performance competition is open for undergraduate and postgraduate nursing student
  • No limit for participant. Max 15 persons in one group with minimum 3-5 nursing students.
  • One institution may send more than one performer to participate in the competition Elevate the Value of Culture to the Maximum Extense

Performance

  • Every participant must perform any cultural performance from their country or area of origin. Performance could be dancing, singing a traditional song with traditional instruments, traditional theatrical performance or any other form of cultural heritage
  • The participants must provide the name, type and brief description of performance to the committee, a week prior to the competition. Any property that may bring harm or dirt the stage must also be reported.
  • The minimum time allowance is 5 minutes, while the maximum is 10 minutes.
  • Final rehearsal at the stage will be allowed a day prior to the competition, at the time that will be announced later. Every participant may rehearse for 10 minutes according to the assigned number. No rehearsal is allowed at the stage other than the scheduled time.

Essay Competition

For the first time this year Insympofest 2019 held an essay competition. We invite all of you to join this international level nursing essay competition. The theme of the insympofest 2019 essay competition was ”Nurturing Innovation and Technology for Sustainable Nursing Practice”.  Based on the theme carried, it is hoped that good ideas can be found that can enrich the knowledge of the reader and inspire people to create works that can help nursing in terms of technology.

Guidelines :

  1. Essays competitions is be able to Undergraduate Student (Bachelor) and Graduate Student (Master and Doctoral)
  2. Essays must be 700 words in English, excluding essays title and cover page.
  3. Essays must be original and unpublished. Plagiarized entries will be rejected.
  4. Essays must be written by one person. Co-authored essays are not accepted.
  5. Copyright of the essays entered will be assigned to the organizer.
  6. Entries submitted by mail must include a cover page indicating: (1) your name (2) category (Under Graduate or Graduate) (3) age (4) gender (5) nationality (6) address (7) e-mail (8) phone number (9) school name (if applicable) (10) your essay title (11) language (12) word count.
